On October 10, Team SolutionHealth will participate in the virtual Walk to Defeat ALS. Colleagues from across the organization have registered to take part in the event. Some are walking to honor family members and some are walking to honor co-workers. All are walking to raise funds to help stop this deadly disease.

Scott Lever, MSFM, Mechanical and Utility Systems Manager at Southern New Hampshire Health walks for both a family member and a co-worker. He is walking in memory of his father-in-law who succumbed to ALS in 1974 and in memory of a beloved co-worker.

Scott says:

Steve Shaw became the Engineering Department Director at Nashua Memorial Hospital in 1985 and remained in that role through his retirement in 2013. In that time, Steve made innumerable improvements to the Engineering Department and the hospital. Steve oversaw all renovation and construction projects in that time period, helping to make our hospital what it is today, including the ICU Addition, Central Utility Plant, East Building Addition, 10 Prospect Street MOB, MRI-1 Addition, West Campus BHU, Northwest Addition (ED, Cardiology), MRI-2 Addition, and the Southeast Addition (LAB, Birthplace).

Steve was a mentor to the staff and managers of the Engineering Department, as well as his peers at other health care facilities through his leadership in the New Hampshire and New England Healthcare Engineers’ Societies. Steve always stressed to others the importance of planning for retirement. Tragically, shortly after Steve’s own retirement, he was diagnosed with ALS in March of 2015 and passed away in April 2016 at the age of 65.
