On a sunny October Saturday, employees from across SolutionHealth took to their neighborhoods to participate in the VIRTUAL Walk to Defeat ALS.
Participants chose different walk routes, and different walk distances, but they all walked for the same reason—to raise funds in the fight to defeat ALS and to provide hope to people living with ALS and their families.
ALS is a devastating, and fatal, nervous system disease that affects the brain and spinal cord and results in loss of muscle control. It knows no boundaries, affecting people of every race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status at an alarming rate. Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person loses their battle with ALS.
Many members of Team SolutionHealth walked in memory of loved ones who lost their lives to ALS and in support of loved ones currently living with the disease. “This is incredibly personal to many of our SolutionHealth colleagues,” said team captain and SolutionHealth President and CEO Sherry Hausmann. “The funds we raised through the Walk to Defeat ALS will go directly to helping The ALS Association provide important care services and fund cutting-edge research that will lead to new treatments. I cannot be more proud of this organization and its members who care so much about making the world a better place.”
Combined, members of Team SolutionHealth raised more than $15,000. SolutionHealth also served as a presenting sponsor for the event.
Before setting out on their walks, participants were invited to view a special video as part of the virtual opening ceremonies. The video features Hausmann, as well as SolutionHealth Education Consultant Ryanne Robicheau and Elliot Health System Director of Philanthropy and Community Benefits Kelli Rafferty.
