Sick and tired of seeing misinformation about COVID-19 on social media? Now is your chance to help stop it!

Twitter is making it a priority to verify physicians and other scientific experts.

The social media platform uses the blue checkmark by a user’s name to signify that the user is who they say they are. The company hopes the checkmark will improve the quality of information about COVID-19 on its site.

Experts who wish to be considered for verification must:

  • Associate their account with an email address from an authoritative organization
  • Link their Twitter bio back to their institution or vice versa

In addition to its verification program, Twitter is also alerting users when a tweet contains suspicious claims about the virus.
